the ticking of my pulse is growing louder
more in tune with every clock I ever set
and you are not moving
I should  dance
I have to jump
Pulled by my own strings, tangled in myself
because I let you hold the hammer just once
you own it now
said you bought it at the neighbors' garage sale
with that old spare tire you said we would need
but the car hasn't broken and it still stands on all fours
proudly
like it was built to
but my third leg is giving out
my forth is scheduled for amputation next rainy tuesday
and you will show up late
with wilted flowers
repeating the words of some old film we have on a scratched DVD
so it skips over the boring parts you say
it skips over the middle parts
only the beginning and the end are vivid and relatable now
you blurred out the rest

but really you never bought it
I handed it down to you from the ladder
when I fixed your broken fan
and you looked out the window
wondering how long it would take to make it up to me
if you smashed the window
when you smashed the window
how long the sheets would be cold
how long you would pull them tight
dragging me and my nightmares with it
close and under
and I would wash them in the morning
bleach out your stains
running acid in the shower
over my body, down my throat
over the house, over the car
over each tire you said could blow any day now
so we could use our fail safe

and I would be the villainess again
but no, too kind, a troll really
crushing villages, pillaging innocent lives
to cure my monstrous face and be-speckled nose

and I would have to tremble in your knightly wake
bowing to your shining sword drenched in the blood of my consciousness
that you will never kiss me
never to brake the spell you cast
and that bloody tire will fix one leg
but imagine the causalities caused
by a million tacks in the driveway
left on a rainy tuesday morning
leaving rusted knights to walk to an empty hospital bed

I really like this poem. I like the imagery and the rhythm.
